Well I received an email from an investment bank to inform me that they are not making me an offer. This came one month after the interview, which I know I did well in except for a group discussion segment.
In a good economy I wouldn’t be bothered at all, since I know with my grades and CV I probably stand a reasonable chance of getting good offers. But at such a terrible time every potential job offer is important.
Still, I am not too bothered by it because I have heard that the work in that particular division of that particular organization is “borderline human rights abuse”, and that there are a lot of office politics there. Maybe this seems like a self-confirming/consolation statement but I have intended this to be a practise interview in the first place, going in well knowing that I might not accept a job offer from them even if they intended to give me one. I was only attracted by the prospect of possibly being offered an overseas position.
I’m glad that out of the 4 banks I applied to, 1 resulted in an interview and 2 are still pending review. Of course, this is a terrible time to be applying to banks I suppose but I’ll keep trying. i am also keeping other options open. I’m also sure that the more interviews I go for, the better I’ll be at them… hah. Considering that was the first formal job interview of my life, I think it was pretty alright.
Hope I’ll get lucky soon.
