// Singapore Price Hikes in 2008

This is an attempt to record all the price hikes reported in Singapore for the year 2008. Readers are welcome to contribute to the list via the comments form, and I will update the list.

I hope this will become a useful tool for Singaporeans who are skeptical of official statistics on Consumer Price Index and inflation rates, in getting a better ‘ground-level’ gauge of how much living costs have gone up by against your own wages.

I will try to find some time to search for information on price hikes dating back to the beginning of this year, so that we can have a temporal representation of the hikes. For starters, I have defined some categories to begin with.

Basic Food Items (i.e. rice, cooking oil, etc)

Hawker/Canteen Food

July - NUS canteen food prices go up by 20% ($1.50/$1.80 noodles now cost $1.80/$2.00)

Electricity

Fuel

Transportation

7 July - Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) rates to be increased
16 July - ComfortDelGro introduces 30 cents fuel surcharge for taxi rides
Coming in October - forseeable public transport fare hikes!
